Welcome to the Catholic Church of
Christ the Eternal High Priest, Gidea Park
Our church has a unique and very interesting dedication. We know of no other church with this title. The description ‘eternal high priest’ is given to Jesus in the New Testament in the Letter to the Hebrews.
Jesus is a trustworthy and merciful high priest: we can trust his word, the word of the gospel, and we know he is full of compassion for our weakness, for he died for us. (Hebrews 2:17) He offered himself once and for all on the cross for our salvation. (Hebrews 9:11-12)
The dedication of our church to Christ is reflected in the ancient Christian symbol of the Greek letters chi and rho on the altar and ambo, and in the windows and doors. These are the first two letters of the Greek word Christos, which means Christ. We hope you will visit our church and see how it honours Christ under the title ‘eternal high priest’.
